Title and level of post: National Project Coordinator - (NOB)

Duty Station: Abuja, Nigeria

Duration: 1 year (possibility of extension)

Expected starting date: January 2008

UNODC Nigeria is launching the project "Promoting Ethics and Transparency in Business Transactions in Nigeria" to expand its anti-corruption work to the private sector.

Under the supervision of UNO DC Country Office for Nigeria staff, the National Project Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a project addressing anti-corruption business principles in the private sector.

His/her duties will include as follows:

* Implement project activities in accordance with approved annual costed work plans;
* Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders with respect to setting up public complaints mechanism, and private public partnerships;
* Setting up working groups and manage meeting schedules for various stakeholder groups;
* Identify, draft terms of reference, e.g. to facilitate the initial assessment of corruption risks for the private sector;
* Engage experts for project meetings and training workshops, where applicable;
* Coordinate and liaise regularly on project activities and implementation with consultants, UNODC Headquarters Vienna, EFCC, the other relevant national counterparts and the EFCC project team;
* Develop, maintain and intensify contacts with private business and its associations, NGOs, civil society organizations, local representatives of other United Nations organizations such as UNIDO, resource persons and the media regarding UNODC programme and project matters;
* Assist in preparing and delivering all necessary financial and operational revisions and financial and narrative reports;
* Undertake any other duty if required, as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

* Successful candidates should have an advanced university degree in political science, public policy, economies, business administration, law, international relations or any other relevant area of knowledge.
* At least five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in the management of technical cooperation project/s in the public or private sector.
* Preference will be given to candidates with project management experience directly relevant to the overall objective of promoting ethics and transparency in the private sector.
* In-depth knowledge of the Nigerian private sector, in particular the banking system is desirable. Experience at international level and knowledge of the UN system is an asset
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required.
* Fluency in written and spoken English, Knowledge of another official UN language, in particular French, will be an asset.
* Excellent teamwork, communication, planning and organizing skills,
* Proven computer (MS Office) skills, writing and analytical skills.
